Quiet apps for the chaos
of everyday life.
AppTree is a small, solo-built app studio. We make the kinds of apps you reach for every day, that don't shout, don't sell your data, and don't get in your way.
What AppTree is
A studio, not a startup.
AppTree is the publisher brand of Storm Forge Pty Ltd, an Australian company built for the long run rather than the next funding round. We have no investors, no advertising revenue, no parent corporation whose priorities will quietly override yours. Just one founder, building software end-to-end, taking the time to do it carefully.
Studios make different decisions than startups. We pick markets where the existing software is either patronising or absent. We ship apps that respect the people using them. We charge fairly and write our pricing down. We're trying to build a small portfolio of products you'll still want on your phone in three years — not a single hockey-stick that gets sold to the highest bidder and quietly degrades.
Why we do this
Most consumer software has stopped serving its users.
The dominant business model of the last decade — surveillance advertising plus engagement-maximising design — has produced apps that are technically free but quietly extractive. They harvest attention. They sell user signal to third parties. They invent streaks and badges and notifications to manufacture daily-active numbers for a board deck. They're optimised for someone else's spreadsheet, not for the person holding the phone.
We're not pretending this is a moral crusade. It's a craft choice. Software that respects its users is harder to build, but it ages better, breaks fewer trust bonds, and lets the maker sleep at night. Our apps make their living the old-fashioned way: people decide, individually, that the thing is worth paying for, and they pay for it. No middleman. No data deal. No dark patterns steering them toward a tier they didn't intend.
Sometimes that means slower growth than a venture-backed competitor. We've made our peace with that. The promise we want to keep is that the app you install today will still be there, still useful, still on your terms, in 2030.
Strategy
Pick markets the big shops ignore or patronise. Ship one product per market wedge.
AppTree's portfolio strategy is small-N, high-conviction. We pick markets where Western SaaS either doesn't fit (Indian joint families, multi-faith festival cadence, Crew dignity) or where the dominant apps treat the user as a data source rather than a person (fitness apps with black-box AI coaches, vague "personalisation" that resists explanation). One product per wedge. No platform-play, no network-effect bet. Software that earns its keep on a single user's phone.
We default to a single domain (apptree.com.au) and a single publisher brand (AppTree). Each product gets its own consumer brand on the app store, but the studio's principles, support addresses, privacy posture, and Sunset Pledge sit underneath them all. When future products ship, they inherit this floor.
The commercial model is simple: a generous, genuinely useful free tier, and a household-shared Premium that costs less than any individual SaaS in the same category. Annual pricing locks in for the full renewal cycle. The friends-and-family discount is 50% off, locked for life. The introductory rate isn't a bait-and-switch; it's a real, sustainable rate.
Principles, written down
What every AppTree app does, by default.
Privacy
Local-first, by default.
Free tier writes nothing to a server. Sync, when you turn it on, encrypts on the device first — we store the safe, you hold the key. Even if our backend is breached, your data isn't readable.
Explainability
No black boxes.
ForgeFit's coach explains every recommendation in five plain bullets. Apna Angan's predictive engine surfaces the rule ("detergent every 34 days") rather than a vague "you might like…". If we can't show our working, we don't ship it.
Pricing
Fair and visible.
One tier per app. Annual pricing locks in for the full renewal cycle. Friends-and-family discount is 50% off, locked for life. No deceptive "introductory" rates that 4× at month 13. The pricing page tells you what you'll pay next year, too.
Dignity
Accept and decline, never coerce.
Domestic workers in Apna Angan can decline tasks with a reason and leave a household without losing their account. No gamified streaks designed to manufacture engagement. No dark patterns. The app respects the people using it — including the people who do the work others rely on.
No advertising
Ever, in any product.
Not "fewer ads", not "ad-free Premium", not "non-intrusive ads", not affiliate placements dressed up as recommendations. None. Our revenue comes from one place: people choosing to pay for the Premium tier. That keeps every product decision pointed at the user.
Sunset Pledge
If we shut down, you keep your data.
Every AppTree app ships with a Sunset Pledge in the terms: 90-day notice, full data export, and a path to keep using your local copy after server-side stops. We hope we never need to invoke it. The pledge sits in the contract anyway, because the alternative is asking you to trust us indefinitely.
In the lineup
Two products, one set of principles.
Each app applies the studio principles to a specific market. Apna Angan lives in Indian households; ForgeFit lives in Western training. Different users, different rhythms, the same posture.
